The Origin

Family Selection · the Marqués de Prado’s personal blend

★★★★★

This is the exclusive selection of the Marqués de Prado: an organic EVOO hand-blended by the family and the team. Its main varieties are Arbequina and Arbosana, to which we add Picual, Picuda and/or Manzanilla depending on the harvest. A blend crafted for the most discerning palate.

Arbequina and Arbosana bring sweetness, mild fruitiness and notes of fresh fruit; Picual rounds out the blend with body, structure and an elegant hint of bitterness and pungency. The olives are harvested at their optimal point and cold-extracted below 27°C in our bioclimatic mill. The result is a balanced, complex EVOO with a distinctive sensory profile.

On the nose, notes of apple, green banana, pineapple and sweet almond, with an elegant hint of olive leaf. On the palate, complex fruitiness and harmony, with a subtle bitterness and a delicate, spicy finish. Ideal for fish, salads and roasted vegetables, and as a standout table oil. Available in 100 ml, 250 ml, 500 ml, 1 L and 3 L tins, and in a gift box.

Sensory Tasting

Organoleptic Profile

Appearance: golden with green highlights. Aroma: medium fruitiness, with intense hints of green banana and apple, a base of tropical fruit and a light touch of olive leaf. Palate: a sweet and silky entry from the Arbequina; it continues with a very mild bitterness from the Picual and finishes with medium, elegant pungency. Fruity aftertaste, long and balanced.

These tasting values are indicative: we assign them to make them easy to understand, and they do not reflect the technical results of an official tasting panel, which can be more complex to interpret.

The Process

From the grove to the bottle

Sourced from both our traditional grove in Córdoba and our super-intensive grove in Seville. Each variety is harvested and milled separately. Afterwards, at the mill, Manuel Heredia Halcón and the team adjust the proportions batch by batch. It’s the only one of our references where the final blend is decided in the sensory lab, not in the field.

1. Selección familiar. Part of the estate’s grove is dedicated to the Picual, Picuda and Manzanilla varieties (40-100 years old), and another part to Arbequina and Arbosana (5-10 years old, super-intensive). Organic CAAE certification since 1996, with precision drip irrigation.

2. Careful harvest. Selective mechanical harvesting onto nets at the optimal point of ripeness. Each variety is harvested separately to preserve its individual character before the final blend.

3. Bioclimatic mill. From branch to mill in the shortest time possible. Immediate milling, a short malaxation and cold extraction below 27°C. Discover the mill →

4. Natural decanting and bottling. Rested in stainless steel tanks under an inert atmosphere and bottled in opaque green glass for full protection from light.

The Origin

The Family Selection

Marqués de Prado takes its name from the noble title of Manuel Heredia Halcón, owner and third generation to care for the estate since his grandparents, the Marquises of Bedmar.

It is Suerte Alta’s family selection: the oil Manuel makes personally, crafted for those who enjoy EVOO every day, with just the right amount of complexity.

Its two main varieties are Arbequina and Arbosana, from our super-high-density grove in Seville — planted five and ten years ago specifically for this selection. These are joined by Picual and Picuda, from Suerte Alta’s traditional and intensive groves, and occasionally Manzanilla, from trees also located in Seville.

Selection philosophy

The balance of a Great Coupage

Each variety contributes its own character. Arbequina and Arbosana provide the base: sweetness, mild fruitiness, freshness and elegance on the palate. Picual adds body, structure and antioxidants, with a noble bitterness and pungency. And Picuda — occasionally joined by Manzanilla — rounds out the blend with smoothness and notes of almond. The exact proportion of each is what defines Marqués de Prado and sets it apart from the rest of our oils.

Each variety is harvested and milled separately. Afterwards, in the cellar, Manuel Heredia Halcón and the team adjust the proportions batch by batch. It is the only product in our range where the final coupage is decided in the sensory lab, rather than in the field.

"Es el aceite que quiero en mi mesa cada día. Su carácter más dulce y equilibrado lo hace perfecto también para las mesas internacionales, que buscan un AOVE más suave. Lo creamos para complementar el Coupage Natural y el Picual, más intensos y verdes."

Frequently Asked Questions

About Marqués de Prado

We answer the most common questions about the Picual-Arbequina blend, its name, its formats and how to use it in the kitchen.

Marqués de Prado is the noble title of Manuel Heredia Halcón, the current owner and third generation at the helm of Cortijo de Suerte Alta. It is the family selection that he personally fine-tunes every harvest. That is why this EVOO bears his name.

Picual contributes body, structure and antioxidants (notes of green leaf, tomato plant and citrus). Arbequina adds sweetness, ripe fruitiness and smoothness (green apple and banana). Together they form a balanced EVOO, free of harsh notes and perfect as a premium everyday table oil.

Yes. It holds European organic certification (CCPAE), USDA Organic and JAS (Japan), as well as the D.O.P. Baena and SIQEV QvExtra seals. The olive grove has been organic since 1996.

Marqués de Prado is available in black glass, 250 ml and 500 ml (boxes of 8 and 6 bottles respectively), and in green can, 500 ml and 5 L (boxes of 6 and 3 cans). It is the line with the most format versatility we offer.

Delivery within 24-48 hours on the Spanish mainland and 3-5 days for the Balearic and Canary Islands. Free shipping on orders over €59. Full traceability and order tracking are available in your account after purchase.

Coupage Natural is a blend from century-old olive trees (Picudo, Picual, Hojiblanco) — more complex, more vivid, more singular. Marqués de Prado is the family selection (Picual + Arbequino) — more balanced, milder in bitterness and pungency, more versatile for everyday use. If Coupage is the “symphony,” Marqués is the “ballad.”
