Why are these certifications relevant?

Traceability is your best guarantee

An exceptional quality AOVE isn’t proven by taste alone. It’s proven in every step of the process: from selecting native varieties grown in century-old olive trees, to complying with European, American and Japanese regulations and the industry’s most demanding standards.

That’s why at Cortijo de Suerte Alta we’ve made the commitment to be audited annually by six independent bodies: so that every bottle is a fulfilled promise of origin, ecology and excellence.

01 · Protected Designation of Origin

PDO Baena

The Baena Protected Designation of Origin is one of Spain’s oldest protection schemes for extra virgin olive oil: it was established in 1981 and ratified by the European Union as a PDO under Regulation (EC) 510/2006. It guarantees that the oil has been produced, processed and packaged within a defined geographic area of the province of Córdoba.

It covers the municipalities of Baena, Cabra, Castro del Río, Doña Mencía, Luque, Nueva Carteya and Zuheros. The authorized varieties are Picudo, Hojiblanca, Picual, Carrasqueño, Lechín, Pajarero and Chorrúo, all native and deeply tied to the landscape of southern Córdoba.

  • One of the oldest PDOs in Spain (1981)
  • Full geographic traceability: grove, mill and bottling
  • Native varieties exclusive to southern Córdoba
  • Audited by the D.O.P. Baena Regulatory Board

02 · European organic farming

100% Organic · EU

All of our production is certified as organic farming under EU Regulation 2018/848. Audits are carried out by the CAAE (Andalusian Committee for Organic Farming), one of Europe’s most prestigious control bodies, based in Andalusia and recognized by the European Commission.

At Cortijo de Suerte Alta, this means zero synthetic pesticides, zero chemical fertilizers, zero herbicides and zero GMOs. We work with cover crops, organic fertilization, beneficial fauna and rotations that respect the natural cycle of our century-old olive grove.

  • EU Regulation: 2018/848
  • No synthetic pesticides or chemical fertilizers

03 · United States

USDA National Organic Program

The USDA NOP is the U.S. Department of Agriculture’s National Organic Program. To label a product as “Organic” in the U.S., it must comply with all of its regulations and have been certified by an agency accredited by the USDA.

This certification allows us to export Suerte Alta EVOO to the United States as an organic product, and it serves as an additional guarantee that we comply not only with European regulations but also with the requirements of one of the world’s strictest regulators regarding organic labeling.

  • Compliance with the USDA National Organic Program
  • It allows for “Organic” labeling in the U.S.
  • Cross-checks with European certification
  • Access to one of the most demanding premium markets
2

04 · Japan

JAS · Japanese Agricultural Standards

The JAS Organic seal is the official certification issued by Japan’s Ministry of Agriculture, Forestry, and Fisheries (MAFF). It is mandatory for labeling any product as organic in the Japanese market, which is considered one of the most stringent in the world in terms of food quality.

Suerte Alta is one of the few Spanish EVOOs with current JAS certification, which has allowed us to build strong business relationships with premium distributors in Tokyo and Osaka, as well as win awards such as the Japan Olive Oil Prize and Olive Japan.

  • Official certification from the Japanese Ministry of Agriculture
  • Essential for selling as organic in Japan
  • Endorsement for professional clients in the premium sector
  • The Japan Olive Oil Prize and Olive Japan awards reflect their recognition

05 · QvExtra! Internacional

SIQEV · Quality Seal

SIQEV is a voluntary distinction awarded by QvExtra! International, the producers’ association bringing together Spain’s premium extra virgin olive oils. It goes well beyond simply meeting the legal requirements of the “extra virgin” category: it certifies that the oil keeps its organoleptic and chemical excellence from the moment it leaves the mill until it’s consumed.

To obtain it, the oils undergo a professional double tasting and rigorous chemical analysis. Points of sale are monitored and surprise samples are taken to verify that the declared quality is maintained on the shelf. It’s one of the few seals that audits not only origin, but also preservation.

  • Independent professional double tasting
  • Chemical analysis for extra virgin status (acidity, peroxides, K270)
  • Shelf audit: surprise sampling at points of sale
  • Traceability and preservation after bottling

Awarded by: QvExtra! International

Type: Premium voluntary seal

About our certifications

The most common questions about the seals that back Suerte Alta’s AOVE.

The Baena Protected Designation of Origin is an EU designation that guarantees the oil has been produced, processed and bottled within a defined geographic territory (seven municipalities in Córdoba) using authorized varieties: Picudo, Hojiblanca, Picual, Carrasqueño, Lechín, Pajarero and Chorrúo.
